This plum-coloured silk evening coat features heavily embellished collar and cuffs, and drapes inventively at the back, both popular features of 1930s evening wear. It would have been worn by a well-dressed lady to a special occasion. The wearer may have been the donor, the late Nancy Pyke. Miss Pyke was not only a generous donor to the museum, she spent many hours working as a dedicated volunteer.
