Lace dress, 1950s, donated by Mr R H Maclean, 1977.132
This lemon-yellow lace dress is made from synthetic materials and was home-made. It is accompanied by a petticoat in a deeper yellow. The petticoat fabric is heavy and stiff in order to create the fashionable full, swirling skirt.
In the style of the Queen, the well turned out lady of the 1950s wore a hat and gloves when out in town, and the wearer of this dress was no exception. This dress is likely to have been owned by Mrs Vernice Maclean of Gisborne.
