Cape, c.1968, donated by Mrs Evelyn Watson, 1989.81
This cape was purchased by the donor in c.1968 and used up a considerable amount of her paycheck! Its simple lines and bright colour are key styles of the time. There are slits for the wearer’s arms to come through and unusual plastic buttons add interest to the front.
The cape has a rubberised lining, which was innovative in the 1960s, but has not stood the test of time; it is disintegrating rapidly.
